Rado True Square x Tej Chauhan

Souvenirs of the future

Our latest design collaboration brings us back to the future in style: the emotional design language of award-winning British industrial designer Tej Chauhan meets Rado, famous for its pioneering design. With flowing shapes, innovative high-tech ceramic and bold colours, the Rado True Square Tej Chauhan visualises the great futuristic visions of pop culture.

At Rado, we have always looked towards the future. We are in good company with that. Artists, directors and architects repeatedly try to define the aesthetics of tomorrow with futuristic creations. Many of their spacey, colourful, revolutionary designs have already achieved cult status – regardless of what the future may bring.

Design inspiration for this collaboration came from the enduring futurist visions from popular culture, from movies to typography to colour theory. For his personal interpretation of a “near future”, Tej Chauhan found the ideal partner in Rado: “We strategically use shape, colour and material to bring joy to people. This common foundation of materials, colour and contrast made the collaboration with Rado an absolutely natural process.”

The basis was the new, ground-breaking True Square – the first square watch made from solid high-tech ceramic, whose flowing shapes are created using injection moulding. The matt yellow high-tech ceramic case highlights the unique texture of the high-performance material and is combined with a case back in polished dark grey PVDcoated stainless steel with sapphire crystal and special engraving. It is complemented by a bracelet made from yellow cushion-shaped leather elements held by high-tech ceramic connectors. A stainless steel folding clasp with a dark grey PVD coating completes the composition.

On the matt black dial with silver-coloured concentric circles, the hands provide strong contrasts from the centre: the minute and hour hands are painted in white, the second hand in neon red. They are powered by a modern automatic calibre. In an opening at 3 o’clock, the date is displayed in a typography specially designed by Tej Chauhan. Blue indexes between 9 and 12 o’clock refer to the time of day when things start moving – in the morning at the office or in the evening on a night out. Faceted sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside provides the best insights and impresses as an independent design element.

At Rado, we love combining our creativity and innovation with the inventiveness of contemporary designers. The new True Square Tej Chauhan is the latest example of this tireless passion. It is with much delight for us to share this magnificent vision of the future with the world.
